Tom and Jerry is a series of animated short and feature films created by American animators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Each installment depicts the rivalry between Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse. The pilot, Puss Gets the Boot, was produced in 1940. Following its success, the Hanna-Barbera duo wrote another 113 episodes, which were shown in cinemas before feature films until 1958. After Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's animation department closed, production continued from the 1960s at Rembrandt Films and MGM Animation/Visual Arts, also known as Sib Tower 12 Productions, under Gene Deitch and Chuck Jones respectively. From the 1970s, spin-offs featuring Tom and Jerry were produced by Hanna-Barbera and Filmation. In 1992, the first feature-length animated film of the same name was released in cinemas, with the main characters voiced and speaking throughout the film. The creators later decided to return to the style of the early episodes, releasing the short films The Mansion Cat and The Karate Guard for the Boomerang channel. Warner Bros. currently owns the rights to the animated series. Tom and Jerry quickly won audience recognition and became popular worldwide. However, most episodes were criticized for their depiction of violence and cruelty by the main characters, as well as weak plots in some shorts. Nevertheless, throughout its history, the cartoon has won 7 Academy Awards for Best Animated Short Film. _____________________________________________________________ Other apps: Theme (Themes for Google Chrome) https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/theme/ihmflfbboaonpkenkijmclgioongccan App pages on social media VKontakte http://vk.com/themegoogle Facebook https://www.facebook.com/themegoogle Odnoklassniki http://www.odnoklassniki.ru/group/53082613022834
