Prevent the browser from closing when the last tab is closed. The extension you've been looking for! This unique tool keeps the browser from closing when you close the last tab and opens a new one instead. When you close the last tab in a window, this extension opens a new tab and prevents the window from closing. Because of Chrome API limitations, the extension works by creating an untitled pinned tab that remains open. When this tab is activated, the extension activates the first real tab. There is an "Open a new tab on click" option that does what its name says. It changes the tab icon to indicate its new behavior. This extension is based on a similar extension, "Keep One Pinned Tab". We improved it because the original had a bug that was very difficult to fix. There is a known issue with the "Open a new tab on click" option: navigating through tabs with Ctrl + Tab will open a new tab when you cycle around the first tab. Unfortunately, no workaround using the Chrome API has yet been found. Nevertheless, we believe that users who use shortcuts to navigate tabs will also use them to open new ones.
