A Google Chrome extension that protects against confidential information leaks through other extensions.
Defender of others can detect, warn about, and protect against potentially dangerous actions by other extensions without requiring advanced user expertise. Its main purpose is to prevent leaks of confidential text information. The proposed solution is for users to define a list of URLs for protected resources, such as corporate websites, online banking, corporate email, and e-government websites, and disable potentially dangerous extensions while using those resources.
In addition, Defender of others blocks all websites from accessing the camera, microphone, location data, and automatic file downloads by default, protecting against tracking. Users can configure lists of websites that are allowed to access these features.
Defender of others also has a simple, intuitive interface that allows users to configure its settings in considerable detail.
1) Automatically add and manually edit lists of protected websites and unprotected subdirectory exceptions on those websites.
2) Manually specify whether a particular extension may run on each protected resource.
3) Independently mark any of the 63 functional modules used by extensions as critical to security in a table with detailed descriptions.
4) Configure potentially dangerous permissions separately for each protected website.
5) Create lists of websites allowed to access the camera, microphone, location data, and automatic file downloads, and choose whether to show an access request or allow access on those sites.
6) Set, change, or reset a password that protects the extension's settings from being changed.
7) Import settings in JSON format or export them in the same format.
Defender of others can be used by:
1) System administrators on corporate networks, where it can be configured using group policy and all necessary settings can be imported;
2) Regular users concerned about security when working with confidential information provided through a web interface.
