I run a small programming school and faced the same problem there. But I didn't want to reprimand the children harshly, so I tried to solve it using a game.
This browser extension is like a timer that lets you set how long you may watch YouTube ⏰
Every 30 minutes, you roll a die 🎲 yourself to decide how much viewing time you get, making it fun to use like a game. Apparently, people are more likely to follow rules they set by rolling a die themselves than rules decided by someone else. It currently supports YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and Niconico.
Before you tell your child, “No more YouTube!”, please give it a try 😄
